Frequently Asked Questions

I am a new boater. Do you offer courses for the newbie?

We offer several courses for the new boater. Our ABC course fulfills the state requirement for boating certification required of all those born after Jan 1, 1988. The second course that we recommend for new boaters is our Boat Handling course. While taking any of the courses at our Squadron Headquarters you can use our virtual trainer, which is a hands-on simulator which presents you with a variety of boating challenges. Then we have two on-the-water courses. There is the Small Boat Maneuvering course and Jump Start which is a one-on-one boating experience using either your own boat, or one of our boat club rentals with an experienced instructor for a two-hour session—great for new boaters or new-to-the area boaters. It’s free to our members who have completed the ABC class.

What is your schedule for classes and seminars?

You can find the complete schedule of our classes on our calendar and then you can register and pay for the courses right on this website under the Education tab. On the Education page you will also find a complete description of each offered course.

Do I have to be a member to take any courses?

All courses (except Jump Start) are offered to our members and to the general public. Our members do receive a substantial savings on the cost of all but the ABC course. Jump Start is a members only course.

What is the cost of membership?

Our annual membership dues are $107 for a single and $160.50 for a family. There is also a one-time $20 administrative charge, and $10 if you’d like a nametag.
